Who the heck is Patrick Duncan?
The long version of my story would start with several stops at small ad agencies during the internet bubble-bursting era, but since those agencies are all defunct or differently named now, who cares? The short story is that I’ve been adding my creative weight to creative projects since the 1900s, which is how my kids refer to the 90s to make me feel old. Since 2003 I have been a freelance writer, although during that time I have been a significant part of several agency teams as a contract writer with an on-site desk. Maintaining my independence while still feeling like a team, yeah, that’s my sweet spot.
From crafting long-form copy to creating quick-hit concepts, I’ve done it all. In the last year alone, I’ve written the new website for M&M’s and a sales brochure for an LED light that attaches to a cow’s udder. There’s no client too big or small, no project too pressure-inducing or detail-oriented, because being a freelancer means bringing the same level of passion to every project. Granted, maybe I’ve gotten a little more geeked for working on projects for my alma mater (Go Green!) or an icon like Muhammad Ali, but my portfolio is a collection of the biggest ideas, not the biggest brands.
In addition to enjoying that ad lifestyle, I love to spend time with my wife Sherry (a crazy talented freelance art director) and twin teenage boys, travel like an Instagram model, and act like I know more than I really do about craft beer.
